Description:
The mission of Lockport Main Street, Inc. is to encourage economic development in the downtown Lockport, NY district within the context of historic preservation in ways appropriate to today's marketplace. By focusing primarily on a comprehensive four-point development plan which includes design, economic restructuring, promotion, and organization, Lockport Main Street, Inc. advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of its traditional commercial district based on its unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.
Lockport has been included along with the villages of Albion and Lyons as one of the first three communities in New York state to be designated an official “Main Street Community” by the Western Erie Canal Main Street Program, an organization affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The National Trust's Main Street Center will provide technical assistance and training to all three communities designated as Main Street communities by the Western Erie Canal Main Street Program.
